The giant floating steel doughnut revealed

The giant floating steel doughnutThe layout was ten feet in diameter; the plan and key annotated features are reconstructed from memory from 1991. Benchwork consisted of steel two-by-fours assembled in an eight-foot square frame (as shown by the black lines at right), suspended from cables fastened to corner gussets (steel furniture braces, highlighted in color). The extensions to the left and right supported guide rollers that ran along rails mounted to the room walls. Handles attached to the inside of the central opening were used to raise and lower the counterbalanced layout. Two-inch foam insulation board was bonded to the frame with Liquid Nails.
