This tight view of the point/throwbar assembly more clearly reveals how the ends of the points are shaped. Being all one solid piece of rail, they are very strong, and since they are not physically bonded or otherwise permanently attached to the throwbar, there is nothing to break.

Prototype turnout pointsSome modelers may take issue with the the throwbar being located at the very ends of the point rails. The fact is, real-life turnouts often have multiple bars, and some are located at the very ends of the points, connected by means of brackets. By a happy coincidence, the way I fashioned the points mimics to some degree the 1:1 brackets. I hope someday to find ways to simulate more of the substantial amount of hardware found on real turnouts.
