![]() The throwbar-less throwbar This extreme closeup allows you to see how the points were fabricated and how they are moved. One of the two point wires is insulated to allow the point rails to be energized to the same polarity as the stock rails—that is, opposite to one another. The microswitch lever holds the points one direction, and they are thrown by changing the position of the microswitch. None of the parts in the throwbar assembly are bonded or attached to one another in any way. Also clearly visible in this extreme closeup is the wood grain that I carved into each PC board tie with the tip of a modeling knife.
