"For enjoyment with everlasting challenge." That slogan still sums it all up for me. When I purchased this magazine in a Franklin five-and-dime store in Meredith, New Hampshire in the summer of 1965, it almost immediately caused a radical shift in a journey I had only just begun. For those of you who have this issue, on page 41 is a photo of Ken Davis' magnificent Great Northland Railway. This is the photo that convinced me to buy the magazine, the photo that would light the fire of ambition and keep it lit for years to come.

By the way, permission to reproduce this magazine cover was expressly granted in writing from the publisher. Since Kalmbach has graciously allowed me to use the image, I ask that, if you don't currently subscribe to the magazine, please consider doing so. Just click the image to reach their subscription page.

Unfortunately, because most people believe that everything on the internet is free for the taking, I must point out that the magazine cover image (and everything else at this website, for that matter) is not to be reproduced under any circumstances. There is this little thing called copyright law which prohibits unauthorized reproduction of any published work, and it applies to the internet every bit as much as it does to printed matter.
