The White River and Northern Model Railroad

First structure for the White River and Northern III

First structure for the White River and Northern III

Two blocks from my condo was the West Trenton passenger station, located on the old Reading line. The station platforms ended at a bridge over a road. What made the bridge unique is that, long ago, a trolley line ran parallel to the road, and the bridge spanned them both in two sections at an acute angle. There was also an elevated sidewalk along the former trolley line (now a stretch of mud and weeds). This interesting bridge became one of the first structures I built for the new layout. The model is what I call "scratch-bashed"—while most of it is scratchbuilt, the bridge girders were modified parts from a pair of Micro Engineering bridge kits. By the way, this model survived the short-lived WR&N III and was incorporated into the next version.

Image specs: The embarrassingly poor quality of this image is due to the fact that it was taken with a non-flash disposable camera using available light, which is all I had on hand at the time. But... a poor-quality image is somewhat better than none at all. I converted it to black-and-white for better effect—it was otherwise nothing more than a garish mass of yellow.
