Spano Recycling Center on the White River and Northern IV Old transfer cranes are a frequent sight in Northeast industrial towns. I scratch-bashed this model for the abandoned Rearden Metal Products Company, now owned by the Spano Recycling Center (named for Rick Spano). Over 100 palettes were piled and scattered around the property, and the two wagon-top boxcars were converted into storage units. At the far right edge of the image is a puddle in the paved parking area. Under the right conditions, visitors would notice what looked like an oil slick on the surface of the water. Although they weren't seeing oil, they were not imagining the illusion, either—the puddle was a piece of black glass treated with a special coating that created a swirled rainbow effect when the light hit it just right. The glass is available from most stained glass suppliers. Return to Frame Grab Index Copyright © 2006-2008 by David K. Smith.
