Stacking the deck

While the Mattam yard was under construction, benchwork for the double-decked hidden staging yards at the opposite end of the layout was being completed. The plan was to have the staging yard tracks wrap around the perimeter of the deck, and a large hole in the middle would provide access to the stored trains.
