Rolling through town Conrail GP-35 #3625 slips between the gates as it crosses Canal Street in Pennwell, while the owner of a classic old VW bug waits patiently. Ignoring the fact that the foreground is woefully out of focus, there are a couple of things to notice in this image: first, all of the lights on the crossing work, including those on the lowered gates; also, the stoplights in the background work, including a left-turn signal and walk/don't walk signs. Just beyond the intersection is an old Mobil station (follow the links for details on all of these features). Image specs: This is a 35mm Ektachrome 200 slide taken with a Canon TL and a 50mm lens modified with a 300 micron pinhole. Illumination consisted of three 500-watt daylight tungsten photofloods. Exposure was in the range of 30 seconds to a minute. The slide was digitized with a Konica/Minolta Dimage Scan Dual IV. Brightness, contrast, gamma, hue and saturation were adjusted for best appearance on the internet; aside from this, the only digital manipulation performed was the removal of dust specks.
