Railfan Videos If you love steam, you should enjoy these videos. No corny music, no chaotic cutting, no silly special effects, just a series of vignettes with steady images of pure railroad goodness. And there's more to come. Producing and uploading these videos is a long-term labor of love (emphasis on labor), so please stop back periodically as the collection grows.
Note: Most of these videos are available in "High Quality." Be sure to switch from Standard to High Quality mode for a substantially better picture. Origins: At one time I had many hundreds of hours of videos covering railroads all over the country and even South America. Shot between 1991 and 1996, the source tapes were all destroyed in 2000, so when a set of long-forgotten "best of" dubs unexpectedly turned up in 2007, it was like receiving a time capsule loaded with buried treasure. I'm slowly building a library of "best of the best of" clips for everyone to enjoy. And what do these videos have to do with the White River and Northern? The featured railroads helped inspire me to become a model railroader, and continue to influence my modeling today. Technical information: All original content was recorded on Hi-8 videotape using one of three Sony hi-fi stereo camcorders between 1991 and 1996. The source material was dubbed to S-VHS hi-fi stereo videotape, which was then imported at full resolution to a PC using a Dazzle interface. Editing was done using Sony ScreenBlast Movie Studio 3. Although everything winds up looking like crap on YouTube, at least the audio is still decent. |
